Dayne Jordan is notorious for being lyrical, but I believe he’s starting to prove himself as an exceptional storyteller more than anything. While collaborating with DJ Jazzy Jeff, he’s been able to sharpen his craft, continue to grow his audience, and build upon the vision of his 3D theme (Dream. Drive. Determination). This visual proves it and he’s only going to get better with time.
With the release of his latest album, The Memoirs of Dayne Jordan, he presents a Mr. Rogers, (visual treatment thanks to the mega-talented Cristopher Schafer for the song Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood) and channels his memories of growing up in Philadelphia. Overall the video vibe is laid back and relays a feeling as if you’re just chilling on the block, giving you an insider’s perspective on growing up in Philly. One of my favorite parts of the video is knowing that the actors in the video all have personal ties to Jordan but it also leaves me with a lot of questions: Is one of the young boys his son? Could the lady playing his mother be his sister? Is that actually his Aunt?
As a product of North Philadelphia, Jordan has decided to exhibit the true story of a Philly kid growing up in the inner-city while speaking on the daily struggle so many people face every day. In this track, you’ll find that he gets personal and digs deeps into the feels and times he remembers experiencing while growing up as a youth in the city. Listening to his words it’s pretty easy to understand that life in Philly is a far cry from being picture perfect while only leaving those strong willed enough to make a way out of nothing. That’s what being a Stereo Champion is all about – being able to stay positive and keep pushing forward towards your dreams no matter what.
I guess we’ll have to find out more the next time we link with the budding star from The City of Brotherly Love. In the meantime, press play and also be sure to check out the entire album here.
