US-based company Super Evil Megacorp has goals in mind to take over the world by distracting them with insanely good games. They’re creation, Vainglory, was the game shown at the announcement show for the iPhone 6. They came in strong considering this is their first game! With the support of Apple showing off iOS8, they hit the ground running for sure.
Vainglory is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). Think of it as League of Legends for your phone. Play for free but pay to enjoy the unlockables and customization options. It provides a battlefield for two players at a time with the goal of destroying a giant crystal housed within the enemy stronghold. You choose your main character/hero and pit them against others on the battlefield. Winning gains you experience points and unlockables.
MOBA games are extremely basic. Usually you will get a background story of your chosen hero and continue to the battle. That’s it. You can, however, check out the official site and get all the hero stories along with some extra side stories that give a little extra to their backgrounds. Storylines here are non-existent, but that goes for most MOBA games. You will get great details on your attacks and the heroes do have some detailed backstory which is just fine.
So far, no music is to be heard but the sound effects and voice overs have a wonderful level of clarity and do not leave you guessing your next move. Maybe they will plan an update to satisfy our ears. From the sound effects of the main menu, it is going for more oriental sounds. Our characters and their designs look multi-racial so different music for each character is definitely plausible. So far, as sound effects go, they speak very well and can be understood. Good enough.
The Apple iPhone 6 is supposed to have console quality graphics and has already been compared to Blu Ray. It seems that certain characters just move a little slower than others and reminiscent of days long past where your internet connection was being stressed out. It is intensely obvious, however, that this game’s graphics are definitely on par with a higher level PC. Colors are vibrant, not washed out, and fitting to the environment. It definitely looks amazing.
Although it was utilized for and currently exclusive to Apple, Vainglory has the ability to be converted to Android at Super Evil Megacorp’s convenience thanks to the versatile E.V.I.L. engine. Definitely a great start to a new company and an awesome feature for a new mobile device, Vainglory is absolutely worth a try.
