Spring has sprung and its time to whip out your freshest sneakers, chuck your snow boots and stroll the DMV. These are the events you should check out this month:
Color Vibe 5K // April 4
Start spring off right with a 5K run. Grab a group of friends, stretch your legs and take off into tons of colored powder. Throughout the entire run, volunteers throw colored cornstarch powder at runners until they reach the finish line where a giant color throw and dance party takes place. Sign up with a group and get the team a discount!
Wiz Khalifa & Curren$y // April 6
A few days after his birthday, Curren$y is set to take Baltimore. This now 33-year-old rapper, who also dropped “Uber Driver” with Wiz Khalifia this week, is currently selling Pilot Talk III for $100. The money also gets you a usb drive, a look book and exclusive apparel. Worth the cost? Let us know before/after the show.
The Pancake & Booze Art Show (Penn Social) // April 9
Order up! Not only will you gaze upon graffiti and underground artwork, but you’ll also have the sweet aroma of maple syrup and sweet butter in the air. All while sipping your favorite drink.
Drink the District: Cherry Blossom // April 11
This Drink the District is a bit different from previous events. In honor of the beautiful Asian flower blooming all around the DMV, try more than 50 wines and 30 beers. DC’s best food trucks will be in attendance, and have we forgotten to mention there will be live music and games?! Admit it: we all love drunken fun. Choose your session to get hammered, the afternoon or evening.
Ting Tings at 930 Club // April 11
This high-energy dance pop duo that D.C. has learned to love will be kicking off their tour in support of their latest album ‘Super Critical’ at SXSW. They’re known to rock a crowd and will be doing just that at the legendary 930 Club this weekend!
FilmFest DC // April 16-26
So we might not have Tribeca Film Festival with James Franco in attendance, but we don’t need that to enjoy a good film in the District. Watch documentaries, features, animations and more and explore filmography at its finest. Expect hard-hitting films that touch upon major issues not just in the United States, but across the entire globe. Definitely check out the guest appearances and discover hidden meanings behind films.
Priest Live At U Street Music Hall // April 15
D.C. based punk outfit. Lead singer Katie has spoken on a number of panels discussing current affairs of punk in D.C. and elsewhere. She was also previously a part of Chain and The Gang. Here’s a local band that’s also nationally recognized for their dop work on their debut album. They are known for tossin’ out Chipotle before shows so if your hungry this might be the show for you and some good men.
Kitty Daisy & Lewis at U Street Music Hall // April 17
If your interested in mixing your weekend up with a fun show you definitely do not want to miss Kitty Daisy & Lewis. They are a throwback, rag timey swinging pop duo with a fun sound. With the sweet vocals of Kitty Daisy & Lewis you won’t be far from having a great time when they perform.
Global Citizen Earth Day @ Washington Monument // April 18
The Global Poverty Project thought, what would be the best way to bring awareness to the DMV? Lets just throw a concert with No Doubt (casual), Usher (casual) and Mary J. Blige (even more casual). This FREE concert will surely be memorable with these three headliners (and several others) singing their hearts out for a great cause. Don’t forget, Beyonce made a surprise appearance at last year’s festivities in the big apple.
Sneaker Con DC // April 18
The greatest sneaker show will stop in DC on Saturday, April 18th. Prepare for 80,000 square feet of the dopest sneakers to have ever exist. I’m sure there will be tons of Jay’s, Foamposites, Yeezy’s, and Lebron’s in the building.
The Emporiyum // April 18-19
Whether you’re looking to try new food or beat the DC madness the whole weekend, head to Baltimore where this food market will take place. Meet. Eat. Shop. Your foodie friends will love tasting the best treats from around the country. From Luke’s’ Lobster to Toki Underground, DMV chefs will take Charm city by storm.
Joey Fatts Live At U Street Music Hall // April 20
Here’s a dope MC that’s hailing from Long Beach, CA with some ill bars for your best day. People say he was somewhat discovered by A$AP Rocky but who cares this kid got bars and speaks the truth. If your in the mood to hear some real sh*t and hear some dope beats make sure you make it out to his show at U Street Music Hall.
Truckeroo // April 24
From 11 am to 11 pm, food trucks will be lined up with live music all day, cold drinks at hand, cornhole on the fields and tons of delicious food. Spend the day trying a variety of food including Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches, giant pizza slices, lobster rolls, tapas and cookies. Admission is free, but come with a heavy wallet so you can try all the food you want.
Broccoli City Festival // April 25
Rock Creek Social never disappoints and this is one of the most sought out events you’ll want to end your month with. Expect Joey BadA$$, Erykah Badu and Tink to all bring their A-game as they headline this green event. Access yoga classes, watch yoga demonstrations, buy goodies at the marketplace and check out the live art gallery.
