Sometimes, I ask myself how much does attaching a look to the music really matter in this age of Hip-Hop. You’ve seen the success of the “mysterious artist” when GoldLink stepped on the scene with The God Complex and never revealed his face for months, even during performances. It may seem odd to those who drool over appearance, while others just accept the record for what it is. So, with this selection for our Song of the Week, the search of matching the man to the music has been a pure struggle (thanks a lot, Google), but it doesn’t block the greatness of the track. Hailing from Maryland, Ciscero’s lead single for his upcoming Kids Wear Crowns EP is one of those songs you need to hear.
The feeling of a song is essential for a music lover (myself included) and the soul sound in this song offers something refreshing. The horn-filled sample from Diggs Duke and solid production from Shaad Huron are the heart of the title track for Kids Wear Crowns. Along with some quality verses from Mannywellz and Asante, there’s not too many artists who are making this kind of music with a sincere approach. Overall, this song is indeed special and creates a cloud of suspense in assuming what his body of work will render. With that being said, though there’s no trace of the face behind this soulful rendition, Ciscero’s “Kids Wear Crowns” is more than deserving of the title for our Song of the Week. We hope you enjoy!
