Gallant comes full force with his album, Ology, dropping earlier this month. it’s almost like we NEEDED him to make our top song of the week. Tons of news continually surround Jhené Aiko as she preps to perform at Broccoli City Festival after releasing a collaborative album with rapper Big Sean under the name “TWENTY88.”
Expect this Columbia, Maryland singer, to blow up this year because there’s no way you can miss his voice. His tones remind you of John Legend, but with more edge and rawness that makes you think, “Who is this?”
The first time I listened to this song, I hit repeat. It rarely happens upon the initial response, but with this tune it did.
With the drums beating in the beginning and a strum of a guitar being plucked, you instantly fall into a summer swing. When you hear Gallant’s voice, it’s almost mystifying and feels like you’re falling into a hammock with this jam playing in the background.
Can you hit that high note? I’m still trying and it’s not happening. Major props.
Trumpets come in and the singer belts into a lower tone. The chorus begins and Jhené harmonizes with his high-toned voice only to go in an upper pitch herself. Her solo reminds you of “Spotless Mind” from her album, “Souled Out.” The two’s beautiful tones mesh perfectly together. It’s as if God made the singers for each other to come together in this outstanding album.
