Shaolin Jazz continues to keep things rolling since their previous project “Byrd Over Staten.” Their latest installment in their tribute series highlights the late Clarence Reid aka Blowfly. Titled “Blow One For Clarence“, DJ 2-Tone Jones blends samples from the late Clarence with hardcore lyrics from notable Wu-Tang members Raekwon and Method Man. Towards the second half of the track, we’re even treated to a surprising Redman and Method Man tag team rapping which takes the listener on a musical journey. Known as the Original Dirty Rapper, Clarence Reid’s raunchy and explicit musical content has influenced many and has even been sampled by some of hip hops greatest to ever grace the mic.
“Blow One for Clarence” is the newest project in our SHAOLIN JAZZ Tribute Series and with this release, we’re paying tribute to Clarence Reid aka “Blowfly.” Reid, an accomplished musician, producer, and writer created material for and was sampled by notable acts from KC and the Sunshine Band to DMX, and his uninhibited alter ego “Blowfly” served as an influencer to a range of famed hip-hop artists, such as Snoop Dogg and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.”
