Last week, there was a festive event at The Blind Whino to get young voters rallied up for the upcoming election that’ll be taking place. This eventually led to an awesome event put together with the help of Rock The Vote, Twitter, STK, Fusion, and more. At first glance before entering the venue you could find a super funky old school church painted beautifully on the outside and the interior was just as creative and full of life. With the main goal of the event being about getting the wonderful people of the District hyped about the upcoming elections, I have to say this was a well put together event.
There were also features from some notable DC Food Trucks including a Peruvian food truck and Big Cheese for quick bites before the show. As the night went on there were photo booths set up everywhere by Twitter, Fusion glow sticks for all, Boxed Water and bites from STK. One of my favorite brands in appearance for the night would definitely be Earlove, a pretty awesome earplug company from Chicago that focus on the preservation of hearing. They made sure to give out as many pair of their Earlove-Classic earplugs before the big show. S/O to Boxed Water for keeping me hydrated throughout the night as well.
While everyone was still making their way to The Blind Whino, I managed to take some time and check out the dope MF Doom exhibit that was featured in the bottom level of the building and all I can say is Wow! Some of those creations were beyond ill and made it well worth checking out the venue more than once. As the drinks continued to pour and folks enjoyed the good vibes of DJ Adam To The Max, smiles showered the room, and camera flashes captured good times.
Once the crowd made it into the venue you could hear the music blazing out of the speakers at the top of the building by DJ Lemz who eventually was the opener for the local hometown hero’s RDGLDGRN. This is when having Earlove really came in handy as they kept my hearing intact throughout the RDGLDGRN performance which featured many of their dope tracks including I Love Lamp, Doing The Most, and Hey O. Shortly after RDGLDGRN finished their set DJ Shiftee took to the stage and shut the place down with his magnificent set for the night.
Overall, this was an event full of movers and shakers, partiers full of life, and a mob of energetic voter ambassadors. There were also many guest appearances including Ashley Spillane (President at Rock The Vote), Colin Crowell (Head of Global Public Policy at Twitter), Rodney Rikai (Arean Host of the Washington Wizards), and Nikki Baboun, Rebecca Dorfman (Fusion Reps). Huge s/o and thank you goes out to Elstabo for the dope MF Doom artwork, def check out his other work on his site.
