Rihanna’s ANTI World Tour was absolutely amazing as she pulled all of the tricks out the bag to make sure the show was sexy, interactive, and memorable. To kick things off Chase B took to the wheels of steel to get the crowd hyped up and ready for Travis Scott to come to the stage. Shortly, after spinning a ton of trap music and running back over and over Alright by Kendrick Lamar, Chase B went on to introduce Travis Scott as he ran on stage and immediately got the crowd lit. He literally recited just about every track from his Rodeo album and also made a giant leap into the crowd to interact with his fans to help him fill in the lyrics for many of his songs which was cool to see.
As the show progressed he yelled into the mic saying “I want you all to get so fucking loud and shake the fucking building to the point that Michelle and Barack Obama can feel it.” This really got the crowd amp’d up and he began performing his new track A-Team. Once the crowd got into the vibe he was pitching, he finished his show off with his most notable track Antidote (90M+ plays on Spotify). Once he finished up Antidote he went on to say goodbye to the crowd and told everyone to get ready for Rihanna’s performance.
Once the stadium got quiet and went pitch black, you could hear the fans going crazy opposite of the main stage and there she was. Rihanna started the show while singing on a platform stage to get the crowd hyped for her show fully covered in a hoody while showing some skin sensually through a few body rolls as fans went wild. Once she got settled in a see-through stage dropped from the center of the Verizon Center and made it’s way towards Rihanna. She then proceeded to open the gate and sing while the see-through stage slowly started to move from one end of the area towards the main stage. While on the stage RiRi she danced and sung her song, Woo while seducing fans from every angle of the floating stage while slowly revealing hints of her sexy body to the crowd. This scene was one of the utmost openings I’ve ever witnessed at a concert ever. Literally fans were surrounding the stage and even dead smack underneath it, which many of them quickly took to their iPhones and iPads to quickly catch a selfie with Rihanna or Snapchat the moment to save to their mobile devices to share with their friends later. Sounds amazing right? You guessed right and it just so happened that my phone died the moment she came out, so long for having luck on my side. [sigh] This proved to be advantageous for me as I had no choice but to submit her entire performance to my memory.
Eventually, she made her way to the main stage where she finally revealed herself to the crowd and everyone when nuts. Thankfully, she’s one of the few artists that actually look like how they appear on Instagram. She was beautiful, bold, and sexier than your high school crush. While on the main stage she performed a lot of her hits off of her latest album, ANTI, including Consideration, Kiss It Better, Work, Same Ol’ Mistakes and more. Throughout, the show there was a plethora of talent including backup dancers, body contortionist, a mega-talented band, backup singers, and even a solid part of the show dedicated to voguers. Amongst them all, one of the wildest and craziest moments of the show was when her vogue squad came out in full glitter gold body suits and started landing dip and drops non-stop while Rihanna singing, We Found Love and following that up with Only Girl (In The World), and Only Girl (In The World), and Where Have You Been. I was highly surprised because I haven’t seen so many dip and drops happen at such a rapid pace ever in my life in person like that and I actually go to Baltimore Clubs all the time. After they wore out the crowd with the 10 consecutive dip and drops they landed effortlessly Rihanna went on to perform Birthday Cake and Pour It Up. She then took a brief break to drink some water then when she got back up she announced that someone in the front row tried to offer her a joint, “Shit I’m trying to stop smoking,” she says with a smile while walking away to perform the next song.
She then requested for everyone in the arena to pull their cell phones out and turn their flashlights on and when that happened the entire place was lit all the way up into the nosebleed section of the stadium. Rihanna then said the next song is dedicated to the people that were affected in the terrorists attacks in Brussels. Then she went on to perform Diamonds and for a slip second you could actually feel the energy in the entire arena feel for the victims of those attacks. Notably, she made time for what counted most and used her performance to recognize what had just taken place overseas.
To keep the show going she went on to perform snippets of some of her collaborative tracks including Run This Town and Live Your Life, Famous. It was simply amazing how many hits she kept pulling out of her bag considering she performed Bitch Better Have My Money, Umbrella, Love The Way You Lie (Part II), and more.
As the show was coming to an end she thanked the crowd for coming out and her entire staff. She then performed Desperado and closed with Sex With Me which is easily one of my favorite tracks off of her latest album. Rihanna then was lowered into the stage as the credits rolled on the jumbotron and every fan in the arena recited the lyrics to her song Higher while the instrumental played to let the night out. Overall, this show was amazing, it featured everything you would want to see from the bonafide star including seductive eye stares, powerful vocals, high energy dancing, and Rihanna’s essence in its entirety. If I have the opportunity to go again I’d go a thousand times again and again and again. Be sure to catch her show as she is slated to stop in Palace of Auburn Hills (Auburn Hills, MI) next. If you missed the show you’re still in luck as she’ll be back on the east coast on March 27 at the Barclays Center (Brooklyn, NY).
