This Wednesday morning, Daybreaker took place at the Rock and Roll Hotel and I must say that waking up at the crack of dawn and bearing the cold morning breeze was well worth it! Initially, I was kind of skeptical of getting there so early in the morning during the time in which the Pre-Dance Yoga session was taking place, mainly due to the fact that I’ve never practiced yoga a day in my life. This would all become irrelevant by the time I made it to the event because the floor was packed with attendees who were eager to get their mornings started on the right foot. I couldn’t even get inside to participate if I wanted to, so I just waited in the lobby with some of the others until the clock hit 7am and it was time for everyone to roll up those yoga mats and get their boogie on. While waiting, I had the pleasure of meeting some of the minds behind Daybreaker as well. Everyone was welcoming and extremely friendly, it felt as if I had already knew them from somewhere else.
The time flew by quickly as we all talked and shared laughs in the lobby and before I knew it 7am was here. Once I walked inside to the dance floor I went to the bar to see what goodies they had in store for us, waking up so early I didn’t get a chance to grab something to eat beforehand so my stomach was growling. The breakfast was provided by KIND Healthy Snacks and Confluence Coffee Co., the perfect combo to get your energy shooting through the roof. After I munched on a few snacks I made my way to the dance floor to hear the tunes that DJ David Hohme was rocking. With the heavy bass and bodies rocking the once tiredness I was feeling on the way there was soon gone and I felt as if I was at a club on a Saturday night even though the sun was just rising. Haile Supreme was the host MC and he made sure that everyone was moving their feet. From singing along with the grooves to bringing attendees up on the stage to showcase there best moves Haile Supreme made sure that everyone was comfortable in their own skin and enjoying themselves. The energy was just simply amazing.
As the party went on the crowd was treated to a few surprise acts to help keep the place rocking, including homegrown acts like Tap Dancer Maud Arnold and Hip-Hop artist Flex Mathews. As the time approached 9am the crowd started to thin out due to mostly everyone having to get into work mode and head to the respective jobs. That still didn’t stop David from keeping the place rocking until the very end. If you ask me every morning should be this way, a great environment filled with people from various backgrounds coming together to share positive energy and love. Though this was my first Daybreaker event, something tells me that this won’t be my last.
