This year held high expectations for the 2016 Sweetgreen’s Sweetlife Music Festival as the previous year set a standard bringing in Kendrick Lamar, Vic Mensa, SZA, Billy Idol, Tove Lo and more. For 2016, the vibe was full of rain-soaked fun as festival goers ran across muddy tracks and continued to dance as Thundercat, Vince Staples, Flume, Partynextdoor, Blondie and more took to the stages across the Merriweather Post Pavillion. This year definitely was something special as the food this year was amazing. There were several vendors including Pops By Haley, Luke’s Lobster, DGS Delicatessen, Big Cheese, Pepe, and more. I personally cashed in on Luke’s Lobsters as their lobster rolls are amazing.
To kick things off Graciella hit the Treehouse Stage and rocked the crowd to get them prepared for what was to come. Julietta, Young Brando, Shamir and DIIV followed suit to make sure that the sweet vibe that the Sweetlife Music Festival is known for. As the day went on the weather changed from a 70º sunny day to a 50º rain storm that lasted for a few hours. This was almost straight out of a film as it felt as if Storm from X-Men just swept through the crowd. Although, the weather was changing the energy stayed the same and continued to get better and better with time. As the rain approached the venue, Vince Staples, Eagles of Death Metal, Jasmine Solano and more continued to do their sets to appease the fans.
Overall, Sweetlife Music Festival did pretty well, considering that it was one day shorter than last year and the music was a bit more diverse than previous years. Although many of the festival goers got rained on, the food was better, and the energy wasn’t zapped because of the rain and mud. Come next year you’ll definitely want to make sure you grab your VIP passes early to see who else they bring to the city next year.
As always with events like this, you bump into some pretty awesome people. This year I managed to link up with Quinelle Holder, Sabrina Vaz-Holder, and Brian Freeman whom all seem to do some awesome things rooted around entertainment. Be sure to definitely check out their work when you get a chance as they are all great people. Also, I’d like to say thank you, to Sweetlife for having us come through again to cover their wonderful music festival. Definitely, make sure you head over to Sweetgreen sometime this week to enjoy one of their great salads as they aspire to accomplish their mission to, “Make America Healthy Again.”
