NHL ’15 has got to be one of the most anticipated game releases from the EA Sports camp. This game did not disappoint as it is easily one of the best designed sports games out right now. Starting with the selection menu the user experience is on point and allows you to know exactly what to do and where to go to get to what you need. Also, the graphics are really cool as the creators made sure to highlight the right elements with just enough flourish to make them feel completely authentic to the game of Hockey. As I was already blown away by the intro and the menu, that left none other than the game itself to be ready to be explored.
Of course I always select the home team, The Washington Capitals as my squad every time I play. To no surprise Alex Ovechkin looks exactly as he does in person as he does in the game (I can confirm this having met him in full gear just a few days after playing the game). I mean the game designers really put their all into this. I’m like how the heck do they manage to get everything down from the physical features, the uniforms, and even the stadiums. I’m almost certain there were a lot of late nights spent on this release as it’s up there with the likes of NBA 2K.
The gameplay is fairly easy to have fun with as well too. The creators manage to make sure it was easy to quickly catch on and learn the controls for the game. Most of the time your gliding around and knocking folks over to get to the puck but if your skilled enough you can learn how to do a solid ‘deke’ or score at will. All in all, anyone can pick up the sticks to play a few games without even realizing they are playing a new game.
There are also some fun things you’ll come across that’ll make you appreciate the game even more. Let’s start with the game intro’s, not only do they show you the stadiums before the game in all of it’s realism, you also get two human host that talk specifically about the gaming match-up your about to embark on. This blew me away the moment I played my first game on the title. Above them all my favorite feature of the entire game is the ability to pick fights and literally try to knock the snot out of your opponents throughout the course of the game.
Who knew that NHL ’15 would be a cross breed between Fight Night and the previous NHL title. More than anything this makes this game worth picking up and playing. I believe this will be enjoyable for anyone even if your not a true Hockey fan you’d enjoy playing this title.
