Home is definitely one of the greatest animated films to be created this year as far as visuals go. The creators really went to town on making sure everything was vibrant and explored. Not only was Home filled with a star-studded cast including Rihanna as the main character Tip and Jim Parsons as Oh but the moral of the story was pretty solid as well. The conquer your fears head on and to put yourself in the other person shoes.
During the film the Boov (Oh’s native alien tribe) decides to take over the earth while running away from their perceived predator and they find themselves taking over the town where Tip is from. While making the town home, Tip seems to have been the only human being left on earth with her cat name Pig, while bunkering in a hideout tent that she created in her mothers apartment. Soon after she realizes she needs to get away before the Boov find her so she hops in her car named Slushious, and takes off to get away. She then finds herself in a convenient store after her car breaks down which leads her to bump into Oh.
Tip soon realizes she should befriend Oh in order to get her ride fixed and to find her mother. So the journey then begins with Oh pimping Tip’s ride with the slushy machines from the convenient store including the flavors, Tangerine Twist, Grape Escape, and my favorite of them all Busta Lime!!!! The Home movie car, Slushious, is definitely a real G-ride for you. Without sharing much more of the story this film is full of surprises.
As far as music goes you can definitely anticipate hearing a lot of Rihanna’s music throughout the film as she supplies most of the music you might find on the soundtrack. The one track that’s pretty awesome is “Towards The Sun” by Rihanna which is played over one of the most epic scenes in an animation scene ever.
Overall, I’d definitely say this is a great film to take your nieces, nephews, or kids to go see. It has all of the adventure, wonder, and jokes that they’ll love. Although there is a ton of Rihanna songs in it it doesn’t overly kill the essence of this story. One of the cool things about this film is definitely seeing Oh discover and practice his new found feelings including love, sadness, anger, and confusion, etc.
Sending a special thank you to Allied-THA for conducting the screening at AMC Chinatown DC.
