MLB 14 The Show has been one of the best baseball games out yet. SCE San Diego Studios have been able to manage making the experience of playing America’s greatest past time enjoyable. I’ll go on to share with you some of the wins and some of the misses of this new release.
To start with the good the graphics are pretty at giving you the all around experience of being at the ball game. Each player’s attributes batting stance, demeanor, and personal traits are in sync with reality. The game also gives access to most of the historical throwback uniforms for many of the teams as well. The most impressive thing to note about the game has to be the intelligence built within the commentators who rant and rave about the decision making happening on the field.
Now to share the things that are an utter annoyance in the game. First thing that comes to mind is the weak music selection for the game. Most of the songs are not good at all and there were only about 9-10 songs added to the system to listen to while picking your team and preparing for your game play. Not only are they subpar songs, since there are so few, you’re likely to hear the same song every time you turn on the game to play. Another fail in this game has to be with the user experience design of the on field play screen for pitching and batting. There are far too many options available to choose from creating information clutter that takes away from the fun of knocking a ball out of the park or pitching a no hitter.
Even with the annoyances of the gaming experience of MLB 14 The Show, it’s still one of my favorite games to play during the summer and definitely keeps you excited to play with your favorite MLB team and players throughout the year. All in all, great job to the development team, but tighten up that user experience and don’t go cheap on your music selection for next year’s release.
