In August 2014, PS4 owners had a very mysterious demo titled “P.T.” show up in their Playstation marketplace. The brief demo, also known as “Playable Teaser,” terrified several gamers as they attempted to play through what seems to be (at first glance) an endless game with standout scary moments and a new idea of showcasing horror in gaming. However, when players started to beat the demo, the gaming community eventually was discovered to be a teaser for the return of the classic horror gaming series, Silent Hill. The new addition to the series brought in a lot of promise, featuring Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and famous horror movie icon Guillermo Del Toro. Though the anticipated project drew in a lot of hype, Konami eventually canceled the Silent Hills project after news surfaced that Kojima and the video game company had depart ways.
Although fans were only left with PT, which was eventually deleted from the Playstation Marketplace, that didn’t stop fans from creating independent projects inspired b y the demo. One of the projects happen to be a completely real-life version of the demo. Created by Oddest Of the Odd, a collective of filmmakers based out of Michigan, “Silent Hills In Real Life” was created to bring back the Silent Hills project. Although the setting is a bit different, the short film is completely on-point with the horror cues from in the original PT. However, the twist in the end is an obvious nod to the games that came out before.
Check out the film adaptation below. Trust us, it will scare the sh*t out of you.
