Jay IDK‘s rise has shown to be far from a fluke. The ascension of his debut album Subtrap has been intriguing to witness, although Jay is nowhere near content with the recent success. He held the fans over with the release of his single “Trust Nobody” in April, leaving those to wonder what’s to come from the DMV native in 2016. If you follow him on Snapchat, then you’re aware that the guy practically lives in the studio, but recently, Jay IDK decided to go on a hiatus from social media — noting that his next tweet would be “epic.” And, as it turns out, his next tweet would be pretty important. Alongside being a part of this year’s Trillectro festival lineup, there’s also new music to enjoy. Hey, you can’t say the man didn’t deliver.
A two-part release, Jay IDK’s growth since Subtrap is evident. And when it comes to the release of his songs, there’s sure to be a motive behind them. While “Mentality (A)” is dark and hard-hitting, “Somebody (B)” is melodic and jazzy — showcasing Jay’s development as an artist over the past year. If you had a question as to whether Jay IDK is here to stay, I guess you now have your answer. So, with the Trillectro announcement and new singles, here’s another question to ponder: Is there a new Jay IDK album on the way? We’ll just have to wait and see.
For now, stream “Mentality” and “Somebody” above. You won’t be disappointed.
Keep up with Jay IDK here.
