If you’ve seen the preview of the movie Home, and thought that it was just another animated film for children, then you my friend should reconsider because critics seem to think otherwise.
DreamWorks Animation is undeniably known for their captivating story lines and unique animation, but the movie Home is one of the best adventurous and comedic films since Finding Nemo, which is a considerable classic for many.
The upside to the movie is that it stars one of the fiercest black entertainers, Rihanna better known as Ri-Ri. Having a black lead role for an animated film is definitely a game changer because for one, it’s rarely ever done, and two, black girls can see themselves as a hero, giving the fact that they see someone who looks like them. She’s the voice of the character Tip, who is a strong-minded, and outspoken girl that doesn’t play by the rules of a man-made social structure. Although she is a bit edgy, she still has a soft and helpful side to her personality.
Oh is also another lead character, with voiceover from actor Jim Parsons a.k.a Sheldon of Big Bang Theory. Oh, a lonely, timid, small alien from the planet of The Boov’s race, finds himself on an adventure to planet Earth to find his place in life. The film is about two unlike individuals from different worlds who discover they have more similarities than differences.
I personally think this will be a great film to go see, not only with your children, but with anyone you love because it has such a deep hidden message that can evoke a time of self-reflection that shows us how we view our world and the world around us.
Home will be in theaters March 27th.
