With Baltimore’s widespread talent pool, it’s quite easy to miss out on the gems, especially in the music scene. From artists to beatmakers/producers, it’s difficult to stand out, but the mission is to be heard at all costs. For D. Yelv, it’s a slow grind, and no matter how long it takes, good music will always find its way to the people. As he prepares his upcoming project, Cal Ripken, D. Yelv’s attention to detail is crucial to standing out or just being another Baltimore rapper. His latest release, “Round The City,” is certainly a push in the right direction.
Produced by MJNichols, “Round The City” is the soundtrack of growth and staying true to self. It’s reiterated throughout the track as D. Yelv confidently spits, “I been that nigga riding ’round the city / Swear I’m not that nigga that you used to know.” His flow gives off the feeling that he’s ready to win while also giving the people something to cruise to. If that’s the case, then D. Yelv succeeded with this one. By the sound of “Round The City,” Cal Ripken has the potential to be a homerun. Corny pun intended.
Give the track a listen above.
