While we all enjoy an upbeat thrill, I’m constantly looking for a more serene vibe.
Enter Will Spliff, an up-and-coming Brooklyn-based artist who just released a full mix titled “Baby Making Music” with beats that make you want to trip out, dance around your living room and focus.
While he only dropped one remix and one set, he’s set himself up for success with powerful voices mixed with the perfect tempo and basses.
Hit play and you’ll immediately be placed in a trance similar to ever-so-slowly falling down a long hole into a Wonderland (with a white rabbit screaming, “I’m late!”).
A couple in conversation draw in and when the bass drops around the 1:24 mark, and the set segways into a story of its own. The communication seems like a familiar conversation, one that we all know too well. Will took his own experiences from his past relationships (damn, heartbreak always gets the best of everyone), and channeled it into his music. The good and bad all shows in the lyrical geniuses behind some of the best parts of the tape.
You fall into a sway of strong vibes for about another minute and a half before the bass cuts. You begin to travel through a door into a second chapter as voices become stronger.
Usually I’m not one for a stop in a good mix, but it’s almost necessary and only embellishes the track even more around the 4:30 drop.
The track follows an amazing story. We only hope for visuals (perhaps a music video) to depict Will’s perception in comparison with our own. Do some of the bits sound familiar to Cashmere Cat, Snakehips, Lido and Taku? Well they’re his sole inspiration when he’s jamming skateboarding his way home.
A strong female conquers the track and makes you wonder whose voice fills the room.
Around the 8 minute, there’s a break into a phone call that falls into a dialtone that we all know too well. The physical sound of hanging up occurs as a Weeknd-esque singer. A deeper rapper spits around 11:00.
Before ending, you can hear every accent before the track completes.
Originally from Leominster, Massachusetts, Will studied music and marketing in New York city. He created this mixtape from four different music projects that quickly turned into one project.
Not to mention, today’s his birthday so make sure to him a shout. Listen to future mixes on his Soundcloud and
