A few weeks ago, Wasalu Jaco (aka Lupe Fiasco) formally introduced his latest art collection at a brunch time reception and discussion at Soho House Chicago. The event was hosted by friend, DJ, and Team Epiphany Managing Partner Sky Gellatly. The collection includes his most famous piece, the original artwork for his latest album Tetsuo and Youth.
During the “talk” portion of the event, Wasalu spoke on everything from his creative process to what products were used to create his paintings. Fans of the Chicago emcee particularly enjoyed the story of why he started to put paint to canvas, saying it was a friend that declined his request to create a piece for him and encouraged him to do it himself. From that moment forward, Wasalu says he got “artsy fartsy” and started working on creating a collection, which originally only included photography. Two years later, Wasalu Jaco finally makes his first collection available for public viewing (after some admitted hesitation) and everyone left the reception overly impressed with Wasalu’s clear artistic talent that goes far beyond his music.
