This week the big homie and hometown producer juggernaut, Oddisee released his new EP, Alwasta, and it’s simply amazing. He is definitely noted as one of the premiere producers to come out of the city and it’s great to finally have some new tunes to jam out to while listening to some deep conscious lyrics laced over top of them. It’s crazy to think back on Oddisee and realize at the time I knew his music was fresh when he was still rocking cornrows rapping in diners for his music videos and I didn’t have a platform to write about it, well now I do and I’m thankful to be able to highlight good music.
On this seven track EP, Oddisee seems to take an introspective approach and speak directly from his experiences and personal struggles which is nice and transparent. You can expect to hear great production and creative lyrics to tie everything together just like his previous project The Good Fight. One of the dopest parts of this whole project is his deliberate decision to name his EP, Alwasta which derives from the Arabic colloquial term used that means ‘The Plug.’ According to OkayAfrica, the term ‘wasta’ comes from the Arabic word ‘wasat,’ meaning ‘middle’ or ‘middleman,’ and describes a member of the community who acts as a connector using their wealth of social currency.”
Oddisee has also announced a worldwide tour in that will include dates in the America’s and Europe. Hopefully, we gain an opportunity to link with the ill producer, emcee when he touches down in either DC and or Baltimore. If you haven’t had a chance to see him perform live you’ll definitely want to make sure you buy your tickets early. Press play and enjoy.
