2015 is here and it’s already looking like a great year for movies. With films like The Woman In Black 2, The Wedding Ringer, and Taken 3 already showing and Mortdecai, Vice, and The Boy Next Door ready to be released all in the month of January, a strong tone is set for the year. Not to mention the upcoming Marvel releases this year. I’ll be here to pen a review of as many as I can, but since I’m starting in the middle of January, here are the movies I’m personally excited to see next month.
1) The Seventh Son
February 6
Fans of fantasy can rejoice, Seventh Son it’s about to unleash a brand new world, which of course needs to be saved from the dark magic of Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore). Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) is chosen to fight for Earth, under the wing of Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges). The trailer is 2 minutes and 30 seconds of pure action and “huge creatures vs huge swords” types of badass-ness, so hopefully, the full 2-hour movie is no different.
2)
February 13
As much as I laughed at Hot Tub Time Machine, I never once thought it would need a sequel, and more over I never thought I would want to see the sequel. I was wrong on both fronts. There have been plenty of movies whose sequels have fallen victim to sophomore slumps, and I’m hoping this movie will be just as funny and wild as the first one. Rob Coddry, Clark Duke, and Craig Robinson link up one more time (without John Cusack) in an effort to save Lou (Coddry) from assassination, of course using the time machine so famously located in the Kodiak Valley Ski Resort’s hot tub. The first movie was hilarious, and the trailer projects nothing less.
3) Kingsman: The Secret Service
February 13
If you’re like me, and everyone else, you’re the most excited about the marvel movies dropping this year. So if you’re dying for the next Avengers movie and need a bad ass action flick to hold you over, I’m expecting that Kingsman should do the job. Kingsman: The Secret Service follows a young ex-marine turned shifty on a redemption route to saving the world. He’s recruited & trained by Colin Firth, and has to stop Samuel L. Jackson from launching a large scale extermination of the human race. The acting looks good just from the trailer, the plot keeps attention, and the action scenes look dope. This could be one of the top 10 best films of the year. But I’m praying that they better the CGI in the movie.
4) Focus
February 27
Will Smith is back in Focus with a banging co-star, Margot Robbie in a brand new action movie. Nicky (played by Smith) starts off as an impeccable con-man, until he meets a young woman, Jess (played by Robbie), who becomes his partner in life & crime. As most of you can guess, because it’s honestly a beaten subject, their flame throws Nicky off of his game and he has to let Jess go. She’s not just any groupie though, 3 years later, she’s set up a few schemes herself, and the two cross paths while he’s working a high stakes scheme in Buenos Aires. I can’t wait to see Nicky & Jess in action, and let’s not forget Margot Robbie work her seductive magic on a few fools.
5) Fifty Shades of Grey
February 13
I’ll be missing this one, but I have to mention it. This movie has been talked about for over a year, and even rumors have made it on to national TV news stations. Women all over the country have read the books and are patiently waiting for it to hit the big screen, so the movie most definitely has it’s audience, and while I was writing this, the trailer has been on 6 times in 30 minutes. It’s sure to be a huge release. The movie starts with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) filling in for a friend to go to an interview. Anastasia ends up romantically involved with her interviewer, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and he introduces her to the world of BDSM. But ne thing is for sure, I’ll definitely have to get that soundtrack. The Weeknd, Beyonce, The Rolling Stones, and others bless this soundtrack, these songs are bound to set up a crazy mood for the movie.
