She will be taking stage in DC at the heart of the city to put on a performance you’ll definitely not want to miss. Be sure to grab your tickets early as he shows usually sells out immediately.
T.I. at Fillmore Silver Spring // January 15
One of southern hip-hop’s finest is heading to the Fillmore Silver Spring this January. It’s sure to be bumping, especially in a smaller scale venue. T.I. has already conquered the arena circuit, and now is moving back down to intimate venues. His new music also veers away from his mainstream early 2000’s hits like “Dead and Gone” or “Whatever You Like.” Apparently T.I. told someone in the music circuit that, “This next one is going to be unapologetically gangsta.” Spend January 15th with T.I. at the Fillmore and you’re sure for an interestingly banging night.
KRS-ONE at Rams Head Live // January 16
When your apart of the fabric of hip-hop as much as the one and only KRS-One or Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone, you’re bound to be geared up for a hyped out show. I’m sure he’ll be performing many of his classics and he might even drop a few gems on you in the process as he’s always down to share the power of education.
The Knocks at 9:30 Club // January 16
If you want an electrically charged dance night, buy some tickets to see The Knocks on January 16th. This duo from the Lower East Side made their name in the music world this year with the upbeat and catchy “I Wish (My Taylor Swift).” Anyone can tell this duo is just beginning to launch their music career, and who knows what this show will include. All we know is that The Knocks are sure to light up the 9:30 Club next month.
Jess Glynne at 9:30 Club // January 18
She was just at U Street Music Hall this fall, but if you missed the curly-haired British pop wonder Jess Glynne you should try and snag tickets to her January show. She’s sassy, jazzy, and all around a good time. She first entered the American stage with her feature on “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit, but she stayed with her powerful vocal pop ballads “Real Love” and “Hold My Hand.” This show is sure to delight and amaze, don’t miss her.
Tate Kobang at Baltimore Soundstage // January 22
If you’re looking for an awesome hip-hop show to check out you’ll definitely want to be at Baltimore Soundstage to see T-WAYNE, Tate Kobang, Tk N Cash, Rejjie Snow, and Rich The Kid light up the stage during The Young Hustle Tour. With all of the recent buzz Tate Kobang has been bringing the city with the release of his track Bank Rolls Remix it’s sure to be a lit show.
Tiesto at Echostage // January 22 and 23
For a rowdy night that rivals even the best at DC’s finest clubs, head to either Tiesto show at Echostage this January. With wild, unexpected beats and a crowd that’s sure to delight, this Tiesto show will be heard all over the city. He’s known for his fist-pumping, party crazy concerts and DC as a crowd will give him a run for his money. Clearly, Tiesto realizes how DC feels about a good party – think that’s why he’s staying two nights?
Alessia Cara at 930 Club // January 24
After maintaining and building such an amazing buzz after the release of her single ‘Here‘ Alessia Cara is bound to put on an amazing show for the city to enjoy. Seriously the girl can blow and she always manages to bring good company with her to her shows. You can expect to be blown away by Kevin Garrett and Craig Stickland as well.
Julien Baker at DC9 //January 26
Here’s a melodic singer-songwriter for you to see this January. The Tennessee native has been shocking the NPR music world, and Julien Baker‘s raw, enchanting music shocked me as well. It’s eerie but real and sure to bring out emotions in anyone. DC9 is the perfect venue for this star on the rise, and I’m sure her voice will sound impeccable live, especially in that room. Her song “Something” is what hooked me, so give it a listen above.
Wet at U Street Music Hall // January 27
Wet, the electro-soft pop trio hailing from Brooklyn will be performing at U Street Music Hall at the end of January, and everyone in DC should snag tickets now. Luckily, I caught them on tour with Tobias Jesso Jr. this past October and was offered a glimpse of how alluring their on stage presence is. Singer Kelly Sutra’s voice is one of a kind, and the group’s childlike chemistry makes for a fun, relaxed show. Rumour has it their album is also soon to premiere, so hopefully we will hear a few of those tunes as well.
Matt Corby at Black Cat // January 31
For a soulful, sultry night with a singer/songwriter, you should grab tickets to this glorious night with Matt Corby. After a lengthy hiatus, Corby premiered his video to “Monday,” and fans erupted in joy. His hard-hitting lyrics and moving arrangements create the songs that get your though the rainiest of days. There’s no doubt this show will be astounding, especially if you give his voice one listen. Snag those tickets quick if you want to experience the show of the season.
Reel Big Fish at The Fillmore // January 31
Now if that’s just too soulful for you, you can always finish the month off right while partying with Reel Big Fish. Sure you might feel like you’re in an Adam Sandler film but it should be tons of fun. Hell after all it is the first month of the new year anyway so there’s no right or wrong way to end it. As long as you’re happy and a Stereo Champion that’s all that matters.
