If you are a member of Rihanna’s faithful legion of “navy” fans, then it is likely that you know about her Creeper sneaker. The “B*tch Better Have My Money” crooner became PUMA Women’s new Creative Director this year, and created a noticeable ripple effect in the company’s shoe sales after becoming a global brand ambassador for the juggernaut.
Like Jordans, the Creepers are released in cycles with a limited number of pairs available for sale. Also like Jordans, with a price tag of $120 dollars, they aren’t particularly cheap.
The shoe was first released for presale through Puma in early September, then again on the 25th, then again November 20th—Each time selling out within hours. With no mention of a new release date in earshot, the future is looking bleak for those still looking to purchase Creepers after Christmas. In fact, if you Google search “Creeper by Rihanna” you will likely be led to a site with the words SOLD OUT splashed across the screen in big red letters.
Given the time lag since the November release, anxieties are beginning to deepen as fans wonder if a new release date will be announced. If not, what is a fan to do?
Unless a miracle happens in 2016, the “navy yard” can sadly look forward to paying nearly double for the shoe on Amazon, Ebay or several other bidding sites. Prices range anywhere from $170 dollars to $300 dollars. Considering that Creepers were originally priced at $120 dollars, the new price tags are egregious. To add insult to a very painful injury to your pockets, the color and size availability are obviously limited as well.
With all of this in mind, the question is no longer whether or not it is too late to purchase Creepers, but whether or not you are willing to pay double the retail price for Pumas. Or perhaps the question is whether or not “Bitch Better Have My Money” was some sort of cruel joke alluding to the growing stack of cash adoring fans will now have to cough up to get a pair.
Regardless, let us pray for a new release. Until then, happy shopping…kind of.
