If you’re a huge Mick Jenkins fan, you’ll be more than pleased with this good news. Over the past few months, Mick has talked plenty about the follow-up to his standout 2014 release The Water[s] and that it would be blessing our ears sometime this summer. After two singles (“Alchemy” and “P’s & Q’s”) from the project were dropped and well-received, fans were more than eager to get an actual release date for the Chicago native’s new collection of music. Well guys, you still have a little time to hold on to your patience (if you haven’t lost it), but the highly-anticipated Wave[s] EP will be out sooner than later. Wave[s], which features production from ThemPeople, Kaytranada, Lee Bannon, and more, will be released on August 21st. Smile, it’s only a month away!
As for the third and final single from the EP, the Stefan Ponce & ThemPeople-produced track starts off with an electronic feel; opposing the aggressive and gritty stance Mick took with the previous two releases. If you loved those singles before this song, you’ll appreciate the beat transition as it flows back into his usual sound. The vibe of the record displays his growth as an artist and his versatility is apparent through “Get Up Get Down.” It’s loud and fun; Mick Jenkins wants you to bounce with this one. After the success of The Water[s], having the ability to step outside of the box and try different sounds will be vital moving forward. He surely has the potential to take his craft to the next level.
Until Wave[s] hits the ‘net on August 21st, keep up with Mick Jenkins for more updates.
