The last time we heard from Ciscero, it was a couple weeks ago with an unreleased track “Write About.” A solid release for the Hip-Hop lovers, but it left me wondering where the heck could his Kids Wear Crowns project be. Yes, the wait is obviously unbearable, especially knowing what an artist of Ciscero’s talent is capable of. But, in the same breath, understanding an artist’s skills and their desire to put out the best project possible is a good enough reason to be patient. Maybe we’re closer to the project than we think as the Kids Wear Crowns campaign continues with a soulful, uplifting record, “Ocean Ave.”
As you press play, prepare yourself to be welcomed by April George’s angelic voice — setting the tone early. It’s the perfect intro as the track builds up and catch your interest immediately. It’s a journey to his days in Brooklyn — an ode to the place that helped mold him into the person and artist he is today. When the beat kicks in, Ciscero lets it be known that he’s coming for the crown (no pun intended). On the second verse, he spits, “I know Frank Ocean dropping soon, but this my summer.” That may be a bit bold to say, but the confidence in Ciscero’s rhymes shine along with a flow exhibiting his hunger.
From the vocals to the keys to the graceful nod to Kanye West, “Ocean Ave” is the perfect song. And possibly the best record he’s released so far. Is this is what to be expected from the long-awaited project, then patience is the greatest virtue. Stream “Ocean Ave” above.
