Chance The Rapper is quietly having just as big of a year as anyone in music right now. Playing a key role in Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment’s fantastic debut album Surf, Chance is soaking in the success and having fun with it in the process. From curating festivals to recently teaming up with Lil B for a joint mixtape, Free (Based Freestyles), the Chicago musician has developed into a star and certainly a man of the people. But, for those who were disappointed in Surf (some believed it would be a Chance The Rapper-led project), “The Rapper” in Chance’s name still exists. His latest release with frequent collaborator and fellow Chicago native Noname Gypsy will satisfy your Hip-Hop hunger.
Over a smooth beat produced by Cam O’bi, Chance and Noname go tit-for-tat for three minutes with bars that might go over your head if you don’t listen closely. “Israel (Sparring)” is a fun track where two extremely talented rappers share a nonchalant flow with the feel of a classic rap cypher. Actually, their chemistry on records would make for an interesting EP. Hopefully that’s something the two have thought about but, if not, it doesn’t hurt to dream right? Oh, and one question: Who has the best bars on this track? Have fun with that one.
